Innovative New Electric Quad Bike Introduced

This year’s Frankfurt Auto Show saw a whole host of great new vehicles unveiled, but one of the most unique was the all-new electric quad bike showcased by Artega, a German specialty manufacturer.

They unveiled the new Karo electric quad bike right alongside their new Scalo electric sports car. The model is immediately recognisable thanks to its styling. Instead of the more practical, rough and ready appearance of most quad bikes, the Karo takes inspiration from luxury automobiles, with comfortable seating and a streamlined body.

That body is made from strong fiberglass reinforced plastic, and the model comes with a range of luxurious features. For example, riders will be able to charge their smartphones without even connecting them up with any fiddly wiring, and there’s also a detachable sound system with an integrated battery and Bluetooth streaming technology. Riders will be able to keep an eye on all vital trip information on the Karo’s high resolution digital instrument panel.

Performance varies depending on your chosen model; the Karo has been made with several, with each tailored specifically to Germany’s multi-tiered driver’s license system.

The most basic model – which has been made for drivers who are 16 years old and currently working towards their first licence – boasts a 4 kW motor, with the top speed limited to a still respectable 28 mph. The next model up requires a German ‘Class B’ licence, and is aimed at drivers over the age of 18, who will be able to reach 50 mph thanks to a 15 kW motor.

Finally, a top of the line Karo features an electric motor which is rated at a staggering peak of 38 kW (17 kW nominal), and it can draw upon 74 lb-ft of torque. The maximum speed is a thrilling 65 mph and the model can blaze from 0 to 50 mph in less than 5 seconds. Naturally enough, it requires a full passenger car driver’s license.

Quad biking technology is moving from strength to strength, and manufacturers are becoming ever more forward-thinking when it comes to designs. The Karo has shown that anything is possible.
